Day 48 & 49 - Hamo to Airlie Beach

Our main (and very new)  DSC VHF radio had failed during the Seawind Regatta for reasons unknown. I had a spare one on board but was somewhat distressed to find that this one was not working either. Fortunately we had an old hand-held unit (bought in the US in the mid 1990's!) and it served us well during the regatta. After several telephone calls to the GME Service Department in Sydney it was agreed that we should send the failed unit to them and they promised to assess and repair/replace as a matter of urgency. Needless to say the Post Office on Hamilton Island was closed for a long weekend as it was Prospering Show Day! I was keen to get a working radio as soon as possible so Cath and I decided to sail across to Airlie and send the unit from the post office at Cannonvale. After a brisk trip sailing across we went to the post office to be served by the post mistress from Hamo who informed us that it would get to Sydney no sooner than if we had waited for the Monday and sent it from Hamo! Oh well - we needed to re-provision the boat and Abell Point Marina is now our 'home away from home' so nothing was lost.

We spent the next two days shopping and tidying up the boat getting ready for our next guests (Tim & Kate) who would be joining us the following weekend. I cannot over state how nice it is to have access to courtesy cars for the shopping and general running around!
